Your Health….
Just as much as your Family, Job, Success, Nunchuck Skills or Sweet Hoop Ride with the Whistle Tip.
Cold Hard Truth:
If YOUR health is any less than the best it can be, you’re not optimizing YOU, restricting your life, burdening others and bringing less than 100% to any relationship you’re in.
Think about It:
All these things involve INTERACTION between YOU and other people or things.
Because of that, it’s your responsibility to bring the best you possible to all of your relationships.
If you’re not at your best you’re not capable of doing your best work….
So, if you have your health be thankful for that, you’re, at least able to make an attempt to optimize your life.
You’re waaay ahead of most people, health is something far too many people today don’t have.
How This Happened: Simple Neglect and Lies
Watch any block of television commercials or just listen to all your friends and relatives this holiday….
What do you see/ hear?
Probably a laundry list of aches, pains, injuries, issues and mostly MEDICATIONS.
Everyone is on something….Everyone has a health issue.
The vast majority of which were brought on by simple neglect and disuse of the body.
“the diseases that plague us now are ones of slow accumulation of damage- heart disease, cancer, cerebrovascular disorders”- Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers
We live in a society that has come up with so many technological advances and conveniences that, while we’ve become almost completely inactive as a society, we’re able to continually prop ourselves up with artificial machinery, replacement parts, and LOTS of drugs to counteract our slothfulness, neglect and self-destructive behaviors.
Half the people existing today are like the Six Million Dollar Man man, except not nearly as boss as Lee Majors…
“We can rebuild him, we have the technology”….
Not living optimally mind you, just existing day-to-day dealing with a slow decline waiting for the next issue to erupt and be covered over with a new part or “managed” with a new medication.
All the while attributing these issues to “bad genetics” or “bad luck” not the 8 hours a day in front of a TV and 3 doughnuts every morning for the last 20 years.
When was the last time you took a walk around the block?
Here’s the truth: with today’s medical advancements a good diet and exercise probably will NOT add many years to your life, maybe a few if you’re lucky.
The Difference Is:
Diet and Exercise will add LIFE to your YEARS.
So many people have bought into our Excuse Based Culture that they tell themselves lies to justify not prioritizing their health.
Lie #1: (the worst one, as far as I’m concerned)
“I live for others…my husband, wife, kids, parents etc, therefore I’m fine with being secondary to them even if that means neglecting myself”
Really, so these, important people deserve something less than your best?
How can you care for another when you’re a damn mess?
This “sacrifice” is very logical only if you’re intent on being a Martyr.
The martyr is one who employs self-sacrifice and victimization as a way of avoiding to take responsibility for their life. They are prepared, however, to take responsibility for everyone else’s life.
They are invariably unhappy and unfulfilled because they deny their own needs for the sake of others. They view life as a struggle, and themselves as a bastion of righteousness in an ungrateful world. -Charles Shahar
If you’re willing to be a victim, this is a great excuse and you’ll continue to be a victim of your own devices and “live” your own slow decline.
“I thought my child needed more things to play with, he needed a mom to play with. I thought my husband needed someone to to take care of him, he needed a wife who would take care of herself”- Julie Hadden Season 4 Biggest Loser Runner-Up
Lie #2:
“I’m not doing too bad….Right?”
And everyone thinks………
“too bad, compared to what?”
And in the name of politeness everyone goes…..
“Ohhh, yeah, you’re doing great”
When what they mean is….
“Are you f@cking kidding me. You’re a damn train wreck?” <——- and not a little one we’re talking full on AMTRAK derailment..
Lie #3:
“I’m doing better than (Insert people or person who looks like death, moves like Frankenstein and is habitually in a doctor’s office)“
Yes, you are doing better than the guy who carries a fanny pack full of meds with him everywhere, is in a Hoveround Scooter, by choice, and has to wash himself with a rag on a stick…
Way to go…..Don’t set the bar too high…we all know you have delicate kneecaps.

My Point:
Totally Stolen From Mike Boyle:
Imagine you are sixteen years old and your parents give you your first car. They also give you simple instructions. There is one small hitch, you only get one car, you can never get another. Never. No trade-ins, no trade-ups. Nothing.
Ask your self how would you maintain that car? My guess is you would be meticulous. Frequent oil changes, proper fuel, etc. Now imagine if your parents also told you that none of the replacement parts for this car would ever work as well as the original parts. Not only that, the replacement parts would be expensive to install and cause you to have decreased use of your car for the rest of the cars useful life? In other words, the car would continue to run but, not at the same speed and with the efficiency you were used to.
Wow, now would we ever put a lot of time and effort into maintenance if that were the case.
After reading the above example ask yourself another question. Why is the human body different? Why do we act as if we don’t care about the one body we were given. Same deal. You only get one body. No returns or trade-ins. Sure, we can replace parts but boy it’s a lot of work and it hurts. Besides, the stuff they put in never works as well as the original “factory” parts. The replacement knee or hip doesn’t give you the same feel and performance as the original part.
Think about it. One body. You determine the mileage? You set the maintenance plan?
No refunds, no warranties, no do-overs?
You should be thankful for your health if you still have it, and if you’ve neglected it for even a minute, well, every day is another chance to change that, take some responsibility, stop, reverse the decline and reclaim your life before it’s too late.
“It is very important to try and honor at least some of your dreams along the way. From the moment that you lose your health, it is too late. Health brings a freedom very few realize, until they no longer have it.” – Top 5 Regrets People Make on Their Death Bed
no refunds
no do-overs…
While we’re in the thankful for mood…I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge all I’m thankful for other than my health.<—which I must say, is pretty spiffy….
Mainly my wife, who loves me much.
I know this because she has somehow found the inner fortitude, as of yet, to not throw me out of the house, which I view as a win on my part………….Winning!
My daughter who was born healthy as an Ox (if Oxen are actually all that healthy, I don’t know) and happy as can be, except when she’s hungry…then she’s really pissed.
My clients, who have help my business grow much faster in the past year than I anticipated, you put food on my table and I eat a LOT.
Plus because of you I get to do something that I want to do.
It takes quite a bit of trust in someone to allow them to make decisions about your body.
I mean, you only get one…no do-overs.
So a BIG THANK YOU to all my clients, the onlines, at homes and in the gyms etc ….
And my readers…this blog has grown from a dozen (or less) hits a day to hundreds, which is small beans in the world of blogs but blows my mind that people actually want to take the time to read my ramblings.
Not only have the hits increased but we’ve added new subscribers pretty much every month now for a year…so BIG THANKS to you too.
Enjoy Thanksgiving….you’re allowed to be a slothful, neglectful, glutton on this day….(It’s a universal law) so you mind as well take advantage of it.
