The Desk Jockey’s Guide to Fixing Yourself
We evolved to stand upright. But with the posture a lot of people have these days, you might not believe it. We spend so many hours hunched over a computer screen and slumped on a couch that we develop what I call... Desk Jockey Syndrome.. Really its Janda's Upper Crossed Syndrome and Lower Crossed Syndrome: The result is the really, really poor posture that it seems everyone has these days. Why you should care: You look like Quasimodo..... If you fix this you'll FEEL a million times better. Most of the aches and pains you have will "magically" disappear. Headaches will disappear. You'll MOVE a million times … [Read more...]
10 Best Exercises for Hockey
This list is stupid because there are NO 10 best exercises for any sport... But I put out two of these articles a week, sometimes I run out of ideas. it's not like I'm asking for sharks with laser beams on their freaking heads.... After a long lockout I figured it's OK to be a total tool bag and do one of these stupid lists. #10: Running Sprints Most Hockey players spend too much time in this position... During practice and games it's necessary but what happens is they go to home/ work and... Everything flexed or "closed down"....and they often opt to train on the bike, cause it makes the quads burn, which does more of the same. This doesn't mean the … [Read more...]
The Epic Hip Hinge/ RDL Post
"I don't do those cause they hurt my back..." http://youtu.be/9X3g8-v3iOw And because of that I stopped putting the Romanian Deadlifts into most programs because inevitably I got that or, "I don't know how to do that" I know, you're thinking? WTF? You don't know how to bend over? To which I respond: It's NOT about "bending over" and that's the problem. People think it's just bending over.... It's about: "hinging the hips". http://youtu.be/Gh5lyIbMe8c Bending over happens when the torso (shoulders) is projected forward over the toes with little to no backwards counter-movement of the hips and is usually accompanied by a flexing or "unlocking" … [Read more...]

Doing it Better: Exercises That Don’t Hurt You.
I'm a total Debbie Downer.... Last time I was all like, "you shouldn't do these stupid things" and folks were all like, "But I like to do those....so what should I do instead?" .....actually, they were like, "YOU SUCK, azzhole"... but really that's an everyday thing and doesn't fit the narrative or this blog....any way. I really hate when people point out what's wrong or point out a problem and NEVER give a possible solution. That's not productive. So, in the name of productivity here are substitutes for the Exercises that are Hurting You. Parallel Bar Dip vs. Bench Dip: If you have shoulder issues dips probably are not a good … [Read more...]
Stop Doing This: Exercises that are Hurting You Edition
"There are no dangerous exercises, just dangerous coaches" For the most part I completely agree with that statement. When people talk about how squats wrecked their knees, deadlifts destroyed their backs and bench presses jacked-up their shoulders they have it all wrong. Fact is: "Squats didn't hurt your knees. The way YOU squat hurt your knees"- Dan John Obviously, there are people who for whatever reason, usually mobility/ stability or anthropometric related limitations, should not do certain exercises. But for the most part it's not the exercise its you.... There are however a few exercises which are inherently stupid. Granted, you may be lucky … [Read more...]
